What's new at Voltavision?

Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMKW) with around 2.8 million euros*, a geothermal probe cold storage system is being built on Voltavision's Bochum premises which, thanks to the intelligent use of seasonal and diurnal temperature differences, will reduce the energy-intensive use of compression cooling to a minimum and represent a sustainable and cost-saving alternative.

This month, innovative power will once again meet industry expertise in Stuttgart. From June 18 to 20, 2024, the leading minds of the battery and e-mobility industry will once again gather at the Battery Show Europe. Voltavision, a pioneer and established specialist for battery testing in the development phase, will be presenting its portfolio of testing services as well as specially developed components for test benches for lithium cell contacting and test specimen temperature control.

Technical interest is a top priority for the young people involved in the CArduino project of the zdi network MINT.BOchum. In a six-month online project, the pupils work on the construction of remote-controlled model vehicles. In addition to the weekly online seminars, excursion days are also on the agenda for the young STEM talents in the talent promotion project.

With the new ESR-45 cell contacting systems for round cells and ESF-45 for smaller pouch cells, Voltavision is therefore offering two further in-house developments that combine simple handling with a robust design and enormous adaptability with consistently high contact quality.

Voltavision, a leading testing specialist for high-voltage batteries in the development phase, is reaffirming its commitment to diversity and is actively working to increase the proportion of women in “typically male” professions. Following last year's participation in Girls' Day, this year's event will kick off with a special event for female students.

Batteries are the key components for electromobility and renewable energies. For a holistic, positive environmental balance, not only the battery technology itself, but also its development must become climate-neutral. As a specialist in testing high-voltage batteries, we have achieved another breakthrough here with the first test laboratory with CO2-neutral refrigeration technology, in which CO2 and propane are used as refrigerants.

There is excitement in Stuttgart. From 23 to 25 May 2023, manufacturers, suppliers, engineers, thought leaders and decision-makers specializing in the battery and automotive industry will meet there at the Battery Show. Voltavision, one of the leading testing specialists for high-voltage batteries in the development phase, will also be there.

With the new “Riemke III” test laboratory, Voltavision is expanding its test capacities to an area of 4,600 square meters, spread over five buildings - two at the headquarters in Bochum-Querenburg near the university and now three on the former Nokia site in Bochum-Riemke. In the new Voltavision laboratory, eight completely newly developed battery test benches are used on around 525 square meters.

On April 27, 2023, the time has come: We are taking part in Girls'Day for the first time!

Girls who are interested in the fields of renewable energies and electromobility can spend an exciting day with us from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and get to know our Bochum battery test laboratories better.

Since 2020, Tobias Scholz has been working at the Institute for Electromobility at Bochum University of Applied Sciences together with the Chair of Electromobility and Energy Storage Systems at the University of Wuppertal on his dissertation on the topic of “Characterization, modelling and state estimation of traction batteries”.

As part of the research project “Continuous fast-charging concept for electric vehicles”, Voltavision and other cooperation partners developed a new charging technology and a vehicle prototype to store the energy required for a real 400 km range in just 15 minutes.
